Oil and Natural Gas industry is a huge consumer of tube and pipe.   Whether it be for exploration, production, processing or transportation, the OCTG consumers require high quality, high grade tubular products in large quantities.   Graebener-Reika supports this industry on multiple levels.   For diameters below 16" we specialize in finishing equipment for Drill Pipe, Casing and Coupling applications.   For diameters above 16" we specialize in line pipe forming and finishing equipment including complete turn key pipe mills.

Ship building

Ship building

The ship building industry uses steel plate as a basic element of their constructions.   In most cases these plates are relatively thick and require special welding procedures including beveling of plate edges prior to welding.   Graebener-Reika offers a full range of large format plate edge beveling machines that allow our customers to reduce manpower, improve throughput, and minimize weld defects.   In the case of ship decks, many steel plates are joined to create a single deck plate.   To control construction cost and long term operating cost, ship builders strive to reduce material consumption by varying plate thicknesses depending on the actual design load for a given section of the ship deck.   To weld plates of varying thickness, special preparations of the plate edges must be made prior to welding.   Our Tailor Welded Plate Lines are used extensively in the ship building industry to edge prep and laser weld large patch work plates with varying thicknesses.   By utilizing variable thickness plate assemblies, our customers achieve dramatic improvements in weight and cost.   We also offer a complete line of profile milling machines to prep the weld edges on reinforcing profile beams that are used extensively in ship constructions.   Again, by precisely controlling the edge condition prior to welding, manpower is reduced, throughput is improved, and weld defects are minimized.

Offshore energy production is demanding field.   Whether it be oil, gas or wind, the rigors of working offshore are a constant.   Graebener Reika serves this market on several levels.   For the Oil Industry, special grade large diameter pipes are required in the construction of drill platforms, support structures, and general infrastructure.   For producers of these special pipes, Graebener supplies JCO style pipe forming presses.   We are also supplying 3 and 4 roll bending machines and seam milling machines for making very heavy wall pipes used in the sub-sea transport lines that deliver oil from the deepest depths of the ocean to the land based processing facilities.  

For the wind industry, large format tubular constructions are needed to support the top side wind generators.   Graebener supplies large format 3 and 4 roll bending machines for rolling the tower segments and seam milling equipment to prep the seams prior to final welding.

Automotive

The world wide automotive industry is extremely competitive and characterized by short cycle times, zero tolerance for defects, short lead times, high production volumes and high product performance requirements.   Graebener-Reika serves this market on several levels.   For tubular components such as shock absorber bodies, axle tubes, drive shafts, CV cages, injector nozzles, and similar items that start as tubular pieces, we offer a comprehensive line of cutoff and end finishing equipment from Reika.   For sheet and tubular formed parts, we offer a comprehensive line of tube & sheet hydroforming presses.   We also supply Hot Stamping / Press Hardening presses and lines used to create extraordinarily strong and light weight parts used in automotive body constructions to improve crash energy absorption while simultaneously reducing weight and improving fuel efficiency.

Fuel cell technology

Graebener has been developing technology to support the fledgling fuel cell industry for nearly a decade.   Hydrogen based fuel cells are anticipated to be a primary source of power for automobiles in the future.   The science behind fuel cells has been in practice for decades, but the technologies needed to produce fuel cells with sufficient power density in high volume and at low price was not available.   To address the challenges of power density and cost, Graebener has developed specialized equipment and processes needed to produce metallic separator plates that are 1/100th of the thickness of graphite separator plates.   These metallic separator plates are also more efficient at collecting electrons and releasing heat generated by the PEM process.   The end result is a high energy fuel cell in a very compact package.   There are many factors influencing the adoption rate of fuel cells in automobiles and it is anticipated that the market potential will not be fully realized for some years to come.   In the interim, stationary fuel cells for special domestic and military applications will be more widely distributed.   For this secondary market, Graebener has recently introduced a complete fuel cell package to the market place.

Producers of Seamless, ERW or DOM tube & pipe, or bar, often run 24/7/365 operations that require mill duty equipment for finishing their products after forming.   This includes roll straightening, NDT inspection, defect cutting, end cropping, prove-up, post inspection, marking and bundling.   This is a key market for our Reika products.   We offer individual machines and complete finishing lines that are integrated and automated to assure effective material tracking and high productivity with minimal direct labor.
